The Remembrance book located in St Mary’s Church states burial at Minden in Germany.
Whilst William is recorded in the village Remembrance book as dying in Germany as a POW & being buried at Minden, I found another reference to a Wilts soldier named Eveleigh dying after the Armistice of starvation (There is only one Wilts soldier named Eveleigh recorded as dying in 1918). The matter is also confused by his name recorded on the Memorial at Tyne Cot, Belgium. CWGC state that he may be listed there as it was close to his point of initial capture; they confirmed they have no listing for a burial at all. The POW camp at Minden has no cemetery as all British casualties were moved to larger communal cemeteries after the War. I have contacted the International Red Cross in Geneva as they hold all records for POW`s; hopefully I can get to the bottom of this.
